Travel Diary: Whidbey Island

Hello everyone,

If you read my last Weekend Summary, you would know I went to Whidbey Island last Saturday with a friend of mine and some of my family. It was a fun day and the weather was pretty nice, besides it being a tad chilly. It was cool to have a day to take some pictures and explore fun places. I've been to both places before, but I still enjoyed myself.

The first place we went was Fort Casey. Fort Casey is an old fort the U.S. Army built in 1890 to protect the Puget Sound. It opened in 1901 and had over 400 men serving there, but it never saw action. The station was later closed and became a state park in the 1950s. It is extremely beautiful with its view and access of the water front. It is also fun to explore because of all its buildings you can climb around on and its different dark rooms and tunnels you can venture in. It is often very windy there too, so you can almost always find people flying kites.

After we explored Fort Casey for a little while, we got pretty cold and decided to move on to Coupeville. Coupeville is an adorable little town right on the water. It had lots of cute shops we looked at, including a dutch store full of trinkets and lots of black licorice, and a toy/candy store. We also walked on the docks and took some pictures. Afterwords, we drove a short way to a small beach and caught the sunset. It was so breathtaking, the pictures really don't do it justice.

Hope you all had a wonderful Saturday.

With love,

Elizabeth
